This international standard establishes the general requirements for the competence in the execution of tests and calibration. It covers tests and calibration made with standardized methods, non-standardized methods and methods developed by each laboratory.
This standard can be applied to every organization that executes tests and calibrations. These laboratories can be first party, second party or third party laboratories, and the laboratories in which the tests and calibrations are part of the inspection and product certification.
First Party Laboratory:
These are industrial laboratories which their principal customers are product manufacturers who make the quality control of the mentioned product
Second Party Laboratories:
There are the organizations’ laboratories and are utilized to guarantee that the products accomplish correctly the established requirements
Third Party Laboratories:
These are independent laboratories whose job is to ensure that tests and calibrations are made correctly and are following the contract.
This standard is applicable to every type of laboratories, no matter the quantity of employee, or the extension of the activities range.
